Patrick Roberge Productions was honoured to be the show Producer for the 100th Grey Cup. Working alongside the team at the Canadian Football League, Rogers Centre and the TSN Television Network, PRP presented a spectacular show to celebrate the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto, Ontario. To celebrate the 100th Grey Cup, PRP enlisted a diverse group of A-list Canadian performers, including Justin Bieber, Gordon Lightfoot, Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench, Johnny Reid and Burton Cummings.
With over 5.5 million viewers tuning in, the 100th Grey Cup became the most-watched CFL game ever recorded on English-language television. The Sirius XM Grey Cup Half-time Show garnered a viewership increase of more than 44% from the previous year, with an average audience of 6.1 million.
Acclaimed singer/songwriter Johnny Reid started the show with a bang as he performed his hits “Fire It Up” and “Lets Have a Party”. Flanked by over 230 CFL cheerleaders, Reid rocked the Rogers Centre as the Grey Cup made a grand entrance, escorted by an honour guard of members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Reid’s performance was followed with the singing of “O Canada” by rock and roll legend Burton Cummings.
PRP designed a Half-time show that continued the story that began with the Grey Cup 100 Cross Country Train Tour. Like the great Canadian railway, the CFL unifies Canadians from coast-to-coast. Music icon Gordon Lightfoot paid tribute to the heritage and storied history of both as he performed “Canadian Railroad Trilogy” as the opener to the Sirius XM Half-time Show. With moving imagery on panels behind, the acclaimed folk-rock legend single-handedly proved that he remains one of Canada’s greatest and most respected artists.
Lightfoot’s homage to the history of the CFL transitioned to a celebration of the future with a kick-off performance by Marianas Trench, one of the hottest pop-rock bands in the world. Video display panels flew away to reveal the Juno-nominated group performing their hit single “Stutter”, as swarms of fans and cheerleaders took to the field.
Carly Rae Jepsen hit the stage next, performing a compilation of “Kiss” and her 6-time platinum hit “Call Me Maybe”. The British Columbia-native did not disappoint as throngs of supporters sang along to her best-known #1.
Ontario-born and –raised Justin Bieber is by far one of the most successful and popular artists of today. The pop superstar performed for a full six minutes complete with dance ensemble and a dazzling pyro display. Unveiled from the final video panel, Beiber made his way to the stage to perform his hit singles “Boyfriend” and “Beauty And A Beat” as an end to what can only be described as a Halftime show that will go down in CFL history.
The 100th Grey Cup was broadcast live on TSN, RDS and NBC Sports Network in the US.
