PRP was honoured to produce the Opening Ceremony of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 on June 6th, 2015. Held at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, the internationally televised Opening Ceremony was a true celebration of the values and attributes of the game in a story told through the eyes of a young girl soccer player. Inspired by the multifaceted colours and messaging behind the branding of FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, PRP designed a ceremony celebrating the competition’s key ideals of ambition, inspiration, honour, victory, celebration and pride. Broken into six separate segments, the show opened with an amazing performance of “In Your Shoes” by Canadian songstress Sarah McLachlan as a young soccer player attended her first-ever soccer practice. From there, the young soccer player, played by Canadian actor Gracyn Shinyei, came face-to-face with inspirational female role models in sport: Event Ambassador, Kara Lang; twenty-one-time Paralympic medalist, Chantal Petitclerc; and five-time Olympic medalist in hockey, Hayley Wickenheiser. Tegan and Sara then rocked out with their hit song “I’m Not Your Hero” as over 200 choreographed dancers flooded the field in a massive production number that included stunning pyrotechnics and huge branded fabric pieces, which covered the entire northern portion of the lower bowl. Led to victory, the young soccer player shared a moment with her soccer team as she sang the original song “Stand With Us”, written for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 and, in a spectacular moment, the over 200 cast members’ costumes became the striking colours of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 brand while the flags of the twenty-four competing nations were honoured on field in a spectacular photo-finish finale.
